What
to Bring to the Burning Shithead Festival
- Skin Prophylactics - It
gets really hot in Joshua Tree during the summer. Many people think having
a festival out there is their idea of hell. If you're one of these people,
you should only come if you're willing to be one of the party-all-night
crowd climbing rocks out in the desert or hot tubbing. Then you can sleep
all day unless other people come and make you wake up and start partying
(which can happen too). So you better bring suntan oil anyway. If you
happen to like dry heat and enjoy hanging out by the swimming pool in the hot
dry air of Joshua Tree then you'll love this place - but bring skin
protectant. Water - See comments above. You will dehydrate if you hang out
by the pool without drinking water. Mixing generous amounts of water with
beer in your stomach is strongly recommended by BSH veterans.
Shithead
- the cold dry breakfast cereal which is orange or green in color,
circular in shape and tastes (ever so slightly) of apples. Shithead is sustenance at the Burning Shithead
Festival and is consumed in many ways (including fire). The picture to the
right captures a rare moment - shithead simultaneously in and out of its
native environment.
- Camera - people do take
photographs at the Burning Shithead Festival. For that reason you should
assume that your picture will be taken by someone as well. The Festival
isn't real big on privacy, but you can find some. There we be a digital
camera/webcam there this year.
- Lighter - lighters have
multiple uses at the Burning Shithead Festival. A few of these are burning
shithead, burning things that aren't shithead, and opening beer bottles.
- A bowl - the most
traditional way of consuming shithead is orally.
- Grapefruit juice - takes
the hard edge off the hallucinations
Sunglasses
- don't forget your sunglasses so that when you've consumed so much
shithead that your pupils start to dilate you can make sure you see the
shithead through rose colored glasses, as depicted at left.
- Sporting Equipment
(especially glowing ones) - the middle of the night in the desert is a
great place for testing the body's physical endurance and limits
- Flashlight - if you have
one of these in the desert you can signal to people where you are - or you
can leave it off and sneak up on people you can hear and then shine the
light on them. See privacy comment above.
- Computers - if you have
a laptop and dialup internet access you can log in from your room and when
people from the Festival come in there you can post stuff live on the burningshithead.com website. OpenBSD is the preferred OS of the Burning Shithead Festival, but FreeBSD, Linux,
NetBSD, even BeOS
and Darwin
are acceptable.
- Swimsuit and Towel -
swimming and hottubbing are huge at the Burning Shithead Festival.
Unfortunately there's a hotel camera that monitors the pool area but that
doesn't deter any activity from the group. Once for privacy someone (of
course not us) put a towel over the camera, but the hotel management
didn't like that and they came out and took it off. It's that damn privacy
issue again.
- Muzic - Toonz - right
now we don't have any bands playing the Burning Shithead Festival. We are
accepting proposals from groovy bands. Send your C.V.'s and URL to muzic@burningshithead.com and we'll checkout your site. Right now our
favorite band site is for freshlybaked but we simply can't do without our kumkuat.
- NADS - NADS are often
required for burning shithead. Click the NADS link for details. For attack of the killer nad video, click here.
